Fourth Race 3.45 - THE JOHN SMITH’S FOX HUNTERS’ STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 2)

Two Miles About Five And A Half Furlongs For Six Yrs Old And Upwards Total Prize Fund £40000. Distributed in accordance with Appendix W (e)(iv). (Includes a sixth prize). £24008 to the winning horse. The second to receive £7500, the third £3748, the fourth £1876,. the fifth £936 and the sixth £472. for six yrs old and upwards which hold a Hunters’ certificate issued during the current season by any recognised Hunt and which, between December 1st, 2006 and March 27th, 2008 (inclusive), have won either a steeple chase in Great Britain or Ireland or an Open Point-to-Point (i.e. Gentlemens, Ladies and Mixed Open race) in Great Britain or Ireland. £200 stake. Weights: 12st each Mares allowed 7lb. To be ridden by Amateur Riders holding ‘Category B’ permits to ride, or Amateur Riders riding under the provisions of Rule 61. The winning owner will be presented with The Waley-Cohen Trophy, to be returned to the Racecourse by March 1st, 2009. The winning jockey will be presented with a Challenge Trophy in memory of Sir Guy Cunard, to be returned to the Racecourse by March 1st, 2009. The British Horseracing Authority has modified Rule 187 for the purposes of this race to provide that horses will be qualified to run if they are qualified in Ireland and have a Hunters Certificate currently registered by the Stewards of the Irish National Hunt Steeple Chase Committee and which has not been cancelled. Please note for the purposes of this race, Open Mares’ Steeple Chases and Open Lightweight Steeple Chases at Point-to-Point meetings in Ireland are considered equivalent to Open Steeple Chases at Point-to-Point meetings in Great Britain. The British Horseracing Authority has modified Order 125 and Instruction J3 to provide that, if it is necessary to do so, elimination of horses from this race will be determined by the BHA Handicapper. The British Horseracing Authority may exercise their powers under Rule 1A (xviii) to refuse to allow a horse duly entered to run when they have reason to be concerned about the horse’s suitability for the race. All runners must be presented to the BHA Veterinary Officers for a pre-race veterinary inspection and must pass the inspection. Any horse considered unfit to run will be withdrawn by order of the Stewards of the Meeting under Rule 14 (v) or (xv). Horses may be presented for inspection between 9.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. on the day of this race. Subject to the discretion of the Stewards, any horse which is not presented for a veterinary inspection between these times will not be permitted to run under Rule 14 (v) or (xv).
