09.04.11 - THE GRAND NATIONAL

Two chances to see parade of past National heroes

Echoes of the past will reverberate around Aintree today with parades of past John Smith's Grand National winners.

Ten Aintree heroes will march by in front of racegoers, at 11.45am in the parade ring, and at 1.15pm in front of the stands.

Heading the line will be 28-year-old Miinnehoma, the oldest surviving winner of the great race. He scored in 1994, to be followed two years later by Rough Quest.

The 'Monday' John Smith's Grand National victor Lord Gyllene will be present, as will Ruby Walsh's first winner of the big race, Papillon.

Red Marauder, one of only two horses to complete the course without mishap in 2001 will be followed by Bindaree, and then Amberleigh House, one of four John Smith's Grand National winners trained by Ginger McCain.

Hedgehunter, Walsh's second successful ride in the race, is also parading, as are two more Irish-trained heroes, Numbersixvalverde and Silver Birch.
