The Saturdays announced as Grand National Opening Day Act

Top girl group The Saturdays will get the 2013 Grand National Festival off to a flying start.

The girls will be one of the big attractions of the racing world’s biggest show at the Grand Opening of the Grand National Festival on Thursday April 4.

“Having The Saturdays here at Aintree is a real coup for us, and will make the Grand Opening extra special,” said John Baker, North West Regional Director for Jockey Club Racecourses.

The band will top the entertainment bill for what promises to be the most exciting start to the Grand National Festival in history with a host of other special surprises yet to be announced.

“The Grand National Festival is a huge international event, and we expect the Opening Day crowds to flock to see true international stars,” added John.

The girls - Una Healy, Rochelle Humes, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford and Vanessa White – will be spending much of 2013 concentrating on the American market, but the girls said:

“When we got the chance to appear as part of the Grand National Festival at Aintree, we jumped at it. It's a fantastic event that we're really excited to be involved in.

“While we've been back and forth from America over the past few months, we're looking forward to performing for our fans back in the UK".

Aintree officials are confident that the 2013 event will build on the Festival’s reputation as three days of top-class entertainment and racing. The 2012 event saw record ticket sales, with the Grand National sold out weeks before the big race.

More than 150,000 spectators are expected through the gates over the three days, and a global TV audience of 600 million is likely for the Grand National itself.
