Liverpool goes green for John Smith's Grand National

Liverpool, a city traditionally divided by the red and blue of its Premiership football teams, will be united for the next 2 weeks by the green of Grand National sponsor John Smith’s.

The three-day 2010 John Smith’s Grand National meeting at Aintree, which opens on April 8, is being promoted on more than 150 outdoor sites in and around the city.

Gareth Turner, senior brand manager- John Smith’s at Heineken UK said: “The people of Liverpool are famous for their wit and humour and we hope the campaign will bring a smile to the faces of racing fans, shoppers and commuters alike.

“The focal point of our campaign is a 7-storey high poster on the city centre Holiday Inn which features a giant image of Smithy the Horse, the face of John Smith’s racing, with the message, ‘It’s the John Smith’s Grand National – so why the long face?’ “

The Grand National meeting is expected to attract over 150,000 spectators to Aintree this year and the race will be watched by will be watched by a worldwide television audience of 600 million people across 140 countries.
