07.02.11 - THE GRAND NATIONAL

Liverpool Day racegoers to be entertained by The Farm

Racegoers will be treated to the cream of city culture on Liverpool Day at this year’s John Smith’s Grand National meeting.

A programme of top class entertainment on the opening day of the world famous race meeting will be headlined by legendary Mersey band The Farm. The group, which topped the charts with the ever-popular ‘All Together Now’ and ‘Groovy Train’ will perform for 45 minutes after the day’s racing.

Other bands lined up to play on Liverpool Day include; Threshold Festival collective, The Mersey Cats, Paul Kappa and Alternative Radio.

Liverpool Day on Thursday 7 April is the first day in the three-day extravaganza, celebrating all that is fabulous about one of the world’s most colourful cities. Liverpool-inspired music, comedy, entertainment and sport will all be on offer, with the BGC Liverpool Hurdle race opening the meeting.

Emma Owen, Marketing and PR Manager at Aintree Racecourse, said: “This will be a great party for Liverpool; a city which is famous for its fashion, culture and sport and it’s fantastic we’ve managed to secure The Farm who will no doubt be the icing on the cake in our Liverpool Day celebrations.

The following day, Friday, is Ladies Day, when fashionistas will flock to Aintree from around the country, to vie for one of the huge prizes on offer in the style contest.

Finally, on Saturday 9 April, 40 of the world’s most talented horsemen and women will gather to compete in the biggest social event in the sporting calendar – the John Smith’s Grand National itself. Watched by 600 million people worldwide, the Grand National is the most high profile event on the horseracing calendar. This year the race itself will be worth a record £950,000 in prize money, the richest jump race in Europe.

Emma Owen said: “There’s an extra special feeling about the John Smith’s Grand National Festival this year, and we look forward to making more announcements about signed acts and entertainment in the very near future.”
