Fab Four Sign Up for Liverpool Day
Liverpool Day celebrations at Aintree racecourse are gathering pace with the announcement that the Bootleg Beatles will be entertaining race-goers.
The highly acclaimed Fab Four tribute act will appear on stage following the final race on the first day of the John Smith’s Grand National meeting on April 8 – which has this year been renamed as Liverpool Day.
The Bootleg Beatles, known as the World’s premier Beatles tribute act, are this year marking their 30th anniversary. They will play a medley of classics in the Aintree Pavilion at 5.40pm for one hour.
The Beatles theme continues after the racecourse revealed it has teamed up with the Beatles story to celebrate Liverpool’s favourite sons. Look out for the Beatles Story’s waxworks, originally from Madame Tussauds, on display and people dressed in Sergeant Pepper suits who will be giving out Beatles goodies and special offers for the visitor attraction.
Jerry Goldman, Beatles story director, said: “There’ll be a definite Beatles theme to Liverpool Day including exhibits from the Beatles Story experience and special gifts and offers for all race-goers.
“There’ll even be the opportunity for race-goers to show off their own talents in a music competition.”
Local band 6ix Toys, who will this year play the Glastonbury Festival, have confirmed they will be appearing on April 8.
Liverpool Sound City will also be showcasing up and coming bands in the pavilion throughout the day against a backdrop of footage from Merseyside bands through the eras.
It has also been announced that the aptly titled ‘Liverpool hurdle’ will be the first race of the day.
Emma Owen, marketing and PR manager for Aintree Racecourse, said: “Liverpool Day is really starting to take shape and music will be just one element of entertainment on offer to celebrate our magnificent city.
“This is the first time the Bootleg Beatles have played at Aintree and the gig should be a great send off for people after the first day of racing.
“There is real excitement and a buzz around the racecourse and we look forward to more announcements in the very near future.”
Tickets and hospitality for the 2010 John Smith’s Grand National meeting including Liverpool Day can be purchased in advance by visiting www.aintree.co.uk or phone 0844 579 3001.
