28.09.11 - RACING AT AINTREE

Aintree Family Raceday hosts 'Mini Throw' in aid of Alder Hey

Aintree Racecourse will be supporting the Alder Hey Imagine Appeal next month by staging its own Mini Clothes Throw Party where racegoers will be able to donate and purchase good quality unwanted children's clothes at its Family Day race meeting on Sunday 23rd October.

The Alder Hey Clothes Throw, now in its third year, has expanded to include a kid’s category called the Mini Throw and the racecourse is encouraging parents to dig out those unwanted clothes and donate them to Aintree Mini-throw to raise funds for the Imagine Appeal.

The Mini Throw will be one of many events organised by businesses and individuals to sell previously worn clothes to raise funds for the Liverpool based charity.  Clothes Throw week officially begins on Tuesday 25th October.

Racing’s own AP McCoy will get involved with the male version of the Clothes Throw by donating a signed pair of jockey breeches, ideal for the sports fan to frame and put on the office wall. Chanelle McCoy, wife of AP, has kindly donated a Chloe handbag to the cause, while Chanel 4 Racing has donated a VIP behind the scenes day.

The racecourse is already taking donations of used but clean and good quality child’s clothing items and donations can be dropped off at the course from Monday to Friday, 9am – 7pm.  The collection bin can be found in reception in the Princess Royal Stand.

Emma Owen, Marketing & PR Manager for Aintree Racecourse said: “We are delighted to support the fundraising efforts for the charity that has many racing personalities as patrons.  Clothing children can be expensive as they aren’t in clothes long before growing out of them and we think the mini-throw will be a really popular addition to our family day this year.  We hope people will support it by donating unwanted clothes items and we can raise some money for this great appeal.”

Christine Done, Fundraising Manager for The Alder Hey Imagine Appeal commented: “We are so pleased Aintree wanted to support us by staging their very own Clothes Throw and by staging a Mini-throw on Family Day, we hope many more will be encouraged to stage a throw of their own. Aintree Racecourse are amazing supporters of our children’s hospital and they will make a fabulous venue for a Clothes Throw party!”

In addition to the Clothes Throw, racegoers can expect a full line-up of Halloween-themed entertainment for Freaky Family Funday, including: roaming entertainers, spooky fairground rides, pony rides and grooming, face painting and Halloween shows.  Buy online before the meeting and take advantage of our special 4 for the price of 3 promotion (admission costs £17 for adults); children aged 17 and under go free.  Visit aintree.co.uk for further details.
