Aintree Sends Message to Younger Racegoers: Grab a Band, Get a Beer
On arrival at the racecourse, any racegoer who is aged 18 years or over, but feels they appear to look under the age of 21, should bring with them photographic ID (in the form of a Passport or photo driver’s licence) and pick up a wristband on arrival at the racecourse.
Following the Challenge 21 initiative that many pubs and bars in the UK have now implemented, Aintree Racecourse is following a responsible lead. The racecourse is therefore urging racegoers who may appear to look under 21, to bring with them adequate ID for their visit to Aintree. Customers who look under the age of 21 without a wristband, will not be served alcohol on the night.
In an effort to broaden the appeal of Ladies’ Night for its younger racegoers, Aintree’s new International Equestrian Centre / Aintree Pavilion will feature live musical entertainment during racing from Liverpool’s rising music talent, with the highlight of the night coming in the shape of Eton Road and Lemar, who will take the stage following the final race of the evening at around 9.15pm. Another first for Ladies’ Night, a Pamper Zone will also feature within Aintree’s new grandstand, the Earl of Derby stand, offering racegoers a chance to purchase some of this Summers hottest accessories and cosmetics or even pick up some beauty tips, or receive a complimentary hand massage.
Emma Owen, Marketing and PR Manager, Aintree Racecourse, said, ‘Ladies’ Night is always a huge hit with racegoers off all ages and offers a fantastic mix of music, entertainment and racing. We urge our younger customers to avoid disappointment and remember to bring adequate ID with them on the night to receive a wristband. By grabbing a wristband it will be easier for racegoers to purchase an alcoholic drink on the night – helping racegoers to really enjoy their evening without having the dispute over age.’
Supporting this initiative, Sgt. Paul Marley, Merseyside Police, said, ‘The wristband service at Aintree is a speedy way for those over 18, but lucky enough to look under the age of 21, to prove their age so that they can buy drinks quickly and without dispute. It also means that underage drinkers will be prevented from purchasing alcohol at Aintree illegally.’
‘We’ll also be challenging anyone who looks under 21 and who isn’t wearing a wristband to prove their age with photo ID. Anyone under 18 with alcohol or anyone found buying drinks for underage friends could be fined or ejected from the racecourse.’
Tickets are still available for purchase for Ladies’ Night and cost £18 for adults, £10 for children aged 6-16 (must be accompanied by an adult). NUS card holders and OAPs can gain admission to the racecourse on the night for £12 (with valid ID). Tickets can be purchased from the racecourse or by telephoning 0151 522 2929. Great deals on corporate hospitality is also available by telephoning 0151 522 2911.
