26.06.07 - THE GRAND NATIONAL, RACING AT AINTREE, EVENTS

Aintree riding high with food charter award

Heart of Mersey, the leading coronary heart disease (CHD) prevention charity, launched the Food Charter award two years ago. It was initially aimed at encouraging catering businesses to think more carefully about the food they serve but was later extended to incorporate all food providers. Since unhealthy food is responsible for around half of all deaths from CHD, provision of nutritious, affordable and safe food is vital, says the charity.

Letheby & Christopher general manager, Stephen Cooper said, ‘Obtaining the Food Charter is a great achievement for us and we’re very proud to receive it on behalf of Aintree Racecourse.’ Appointed in October 2006, Stephen masterminded the catering for this year’s Grand National for the first time. He commented, ‘With over 150,000 visitors, it was a tremendous challenge. The team were brilliant and delivered to their usual high standard of service.’

Heart of Mersey was so impressed with the catering and overall corporate hospitality service offered by Aintree that it is now one of the charity’s preferred venues for meetings and events.

Heart of Mersey is a coronary heart disease charity primarily funded by Greater Merseyside’s primary care trusts and local authorities. It aims, through advocacy, campaigns, information and research, to co-ordinate a strategic approach to preventing high rates of heart disease and associated inequalities in greater Merseyside.
